The sun has emerged, so I was able to put the Tamron-Soligor 450mm f8 (see #16269) through its paces on my K5.
Are you using a lens hood with it? Just curious.

I was using a standard 67mm rubber hood. I am contemplating diy'ing a bigger hood.

A couple more with the 450mm this time using my G1 (900mm equiv). The sun was ideally positioned behind me in the west, but I hadn't counted on a blinding reflection off a window. New DIY hood helped!

Got into the woods for some real birding today. Nothing much around but the common winter birds, no migrants yet, but it was good to be outdoors and not shooting from behind a window.

Lots of Otis' friends were there...

Then back inside for some shots near the feeders.

Isn't that a Fox Sparrow you have near the feeder? If so it's an early migrant - they move through quite quickly at about this time of year, heading for the far north. Good sighting.

I do believe you're right. I had it as a female Purple Finch, but it has a sparrow beak...

That's a life bird for me, thanks for the help on the ID. It wasn't behaving like a Finch and I thought that was strange...
