DA 55-300 in Creston, BC, Canada, April 5, 2015

We spent the day in Creston. It was the sunniest and warmest place within an easy drive for the day. +11 C (52 F). The lens did pretty well. There is an album in my photos to see where flare is really bad.

The ubiquitous and often despised Canada Goose.

Hooded Merganser male.

Hooded Merganser female, backlit. I liked the light shining through her crest. She is otherwise so plain looking. You can see some flare, there is a worse one in the album.

Common Bufflehead couple

In flight, too.

This photo is a cheat - it isn't at 300mm, but this woman has been following me around - or was I chasing her until she caught me? - for nearly 50 years. She is trying to catch eagles in flight with her Pentax X-5.

I got a note from a publisher, some here may be interested.

Call for Photographs for Pacific Northwest Bird Book, Tom Aversa, Dick Cannings, Hal Opperman.

They are looking for images of a number of species taken in BC, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. If you are interested, PM me and I will send you the document.

I believe the couple are buffleheads and not goldeneyes.

Just FYI, to show you the amount of cropping I did on the starlings above...
the bird was maybe 60-80 ft away. The FA250-60+K3 combo can render quite good resolution

Just Outside the Door

The first two were made in late Feb. with a K5iis + Sigma 100-300/4 + Kenko 1.5 TC + Unknown Brand Double Pane Patio Door. The last one, a Mockingbird, is from this week so I didn't need the door. It is amazing the damage that can be done by landscaping crews with pole trimmers to 14 Ft tall Hollies.

You will be tired of Mountain Bluebirds before I'm finished!

The male would hover in one place for a good 10 seconds or so, managed to get a couple shots, unfortunately he was pointed the other way.

Thanks for posting - good resolution for sure.
Just goes to show that no matter how big the lens there is always room for bigger

Impressive considering the distance and the size of the bird! I guess you meant the FA 250-600? I can't see myself justifying spending that much on a lens, sadly.
