Not Pentax but I thought some of you may be interested in shots from the Sigma 150-600mm Sport on a Canon 7D

Nice... A lens I would buy if only Sigma would care to put K-mount on it.

By the way... blue tit with a ring?

I actually sent the lens back a couple of days ago ... the keeper rate was far too low compared with the Sigma 50-500mm I use with my K-5IIs. The contrast on it is not great and it's a heavy beast, certainly not suited to my style of shooting which is mainly air shows hand held.

Bluetit was on a nature reserve ... possibly something to do with the ring.

I finally got a hold of Sigma today about the firmware update for the 300-800mm and they lost the work order so the lens has been sitting there idle for two weeks

A couple from today

Congratulations - I find Belted Kingfishers one of the hardest birds to photograph - can't get within a couple of hundred feet of them! I'm thinking I might pick up a cheap hunting blind from Bass Pro and see what I can do with that over the summer.
They are a very predicable bird and use the same location to hunt from and use that same location at the same time of day, I have feeling that how the sun reflects on the water plays a roll when they fish a certain spot.

Nice shooting. Hope you get the Sigmonster back soon. Why don't you have it shipped to me for a QC check when it's done? I'll take it into Yellowstone and give it a workout.

Some more photos from my Tokina 400mm 5.6 ATX AF from a local nature preserve north of me. It was a very bright sunny day so all shots were handheld with SR on. I am having fun learning with this lens but I am finding handheld shots to be rather difficult. I was shooting from a foot bridge in very windy conditions. Unfortunately there was not much wildlife out, just some resident geese.

F16 1/320 ISO 400 Normally I would never close a lens down this much but I wanted to see what this lens would do if I did.

Amen to that (so you weren't in the sniper corps either eh )
I swear by my bean bag. With a set up like I use with my 31A (pic here, on a tripod but you see the principle) with a macro rail there is no problem focusing or tendency to accidently move the focus with slight movements of the lens on the bean bag.

Ha, ha no I was not a sniper either. I remember seeing that tamron back in my film days. That lens is a monster compared to my little Tokina. My biggest problem is my hands shake too much, arthritis you know. I have 100-500 that I used to use on rice bags though. Worked quite well.

Belted Kingfisher in morning sunlight - K-3 with Sigma 500mm F/4.5

There is something around the beak I now call white fringing. I can barely see it here. It is a white line running parallel to parts of subjects about two pixels thick. I've seen it from some of the most expensive lenses out there. This Sigma lens does a good job controlling it. It becomes more obvious when you crop an image. Over sharpening and a lack of light makes it become more apparent also. I usually see it around a dark areas of a bird if the adjacent area of the photo is a much lighter shade such as a light background.

I've been able to tediously eliminate it in Photoshop with a cloning tool if I wish to perfect an image.

Stop thief!

He's getting away!

"It's ok luv we're in the clear" "Crack it open then"

"They're tough these goose eggs" Maybe you ask that guy in the hide for a penknife or something"

"have a little faith honeybun, Lesser black backed honour at stake here..."

"That's it Cedric you've got it"

"Ow my beak isn't even scratching it" "Oh stop being a dweeb"

...but I missed the denouement they scuttled behind the bank on the shoreline and broke the egg on the stones.
