Sorry about all the boring sparrow shots.
When you consider the challenge to get one, it makes it not so boring and more rewarding. They bounce from branch to branch and are constantly moving. As soon as you focus, it's jumped to another branch before you could take the shot. I say nice work.

Nice shots from a rare and looooong lens. I'm trying to imagine how difficult it must be to manually focus on a moving bird with so shallow DOF....

Well the FA*600 is an AF lens, and it focus fast and accurately. For the 1200, the bird has to stay still like the falcon so I can focus in live view.
The falcon is maybe 50 m away...

Sparrows on strike!

I waited and waited, I could hear them in the bushes, but nada. So I snapped a passing white terrier, and was pleased with the bokeh from my panning. Nestar + NX20.

There are people out there who say bad things about certain lenses but as one of my contacts on flickr once told me, "The results speak for themselves."
Agreed - wow! Can I ask roughly what distance was involved?

Still practicing technique with the 250-600. These guys were not very approachable. Understandable with the kiddies in tow.

A few from yesterday. Chestnut backed Chickadee.

This was fun. At a local park there is a dipper nest under a bridge. The female (I assume) was sitting in the nest and the male would bring food for her. I think there were young in as well. She poked her head out and flew off, then the male showed up with a tasty bug. He poked his head in the nest, looked around, glared at me, then dropped onto a rock and waited. The female landed on a rock nearby, he gave her the bug. She returned to the nest. I wonder if the young are too immature to eat whole insects so get second had predigested grub from mom.

Got home at the end of the day and this sauntered through our yard.

I always end up stepping in what the sauntering animal leaves behind in my yard.

We have had Wild Turkeys in the yard, but the days of the Ring-necked Pheasant in NY are long past. Harsh winters combined with changes in farming practices and nest predation by skunks did them in...
