Great shots! In Australia we call that a Chestnut Breasted Mannikin.
Thanks Rob! We do have a species call "Chestnut Munia". Did a search from the net, look like Chestnut-breasted Mannikin are more closer to our local Chestnut Munia's species. Below is the picture of Chestnut Munia that I captured on yesterday.

Right now the local shooters are all out in the full force looking for another Aussie migrant which is the Horsfield's Bronze Cuckoo, got my luck to spent a few minutes with them over the weekend

One day I saw a snail in the grass from the window of my apartment at the third floor. Was not a very good light for my Sigma 170-500, but I've took some shots. First is the snail, in a resized picture, not 100%, second is a flower at 100%, from the same position. both at 500mm focal distance.

I must have been ovetired when I said that species - I meant the Nutmeg Mannikin. Sorry! The Chestnut Munia looks like the Black Headed Mannikin.

Well done! I don't think I have any decent photos of any Cuckoo species. I don't think I've actually seen a Horsfield's either. I think the only similar species I've seen was a Shining Bronze Cuckoo. Your photos are amazing as always!

I don't know how you manage to get so close to them! Can I ask which lens this was?

Yes, but most of us don't expect to see a gull perched in a tree. This was taken in Yellowknife where this particular gull is a tree nester. I've never seen a Bonaparte's in a tree when they come south for the winter.

I never feel really worthy to post over here, you guys post such excellent work...but I wanted to share my Daddy Raccoon. He is a big guy and is rarely out before nightfall, but due to fireworks that disrupted his schedule last night he got hungry a little early today.
He has a Mama partner and four little babies and they come around every night. I do feed them leftovers and they are pretty tame around me....I knew the adults well when they were babies themselves. They have been coming around for years. Very intelligent animals...sort of a cross between a dog and a fox. Very strong and powerful, they don't fear much of anything. Mostly docile, not aggressive...... but will defend their young viciously if necessary.Fun to watch at night, they play like Circus Clowns!

Regards!

There is a fire 2 km from our home. We are under evacuation alert, which means be ready to leave if necessary. Last night it was quite angry, but today things are settled a bit. It is going to be a long summer.

Derek, I certainly hope they can get it under control for you, if we don't start getting a little more moisture out here in the west we are in for a brutal fire season. I came really close to getting burned out two years ago, the fire came within 150yards of our home and it was tiny but we had a helicopter and roughly 120 firefighters that did an amazing job of getting it under control but I did come away with a whole new appreciation of their power just how scary they can be. Good luck to all in your area.
