And a Red Breasted Nut hatch, just for comparison.

These are great examples but it seems you where very close to your subjects.
A real test is near infinity and a huge crop.
I tread very lightly in this group and hope you take no offence.
Cheers Travis
Of all the people to chime in, you do excellent work so your opinion is very welcome! I can't really argue with people who have better output than me. The more I use it, I think infinity is going to be the biggest weakness of this lens. I'll have some time this week I think to shoot some more and make a final decision. Tread on, though, for sure!

Thanks Stan, I have a tough time getting some of these bird ID's right. I ran it through two sites, one Cornell, and that was the result that came back. I thought it was odd but I figured they knew better than me. Maybe I better get a good ID book to double check.

The only reason this was obvious to me is that the Chickadee is a permanent visitor here at the house along with some regular White-breasted Nuthatch. After seeing Norm's pic of the Red-breasted Nuthatch I can see there are more similarities with the Chickadee than our White-breasted -

The Cornell site is very good which we use all the time. But we also reference an old book we've had for years which helps narrow things down - we've had that book since before the days of the inter-web.

Odd! What's up with that, I wonder.

Anyway, I hope you can see this one--a real prize from this morning. Not a lifer but I've only seen a Red-Head twice before. More common (but not very) out in the boonies but very rare here in the city these days.

Yup I can see that one fine - we don't get those guys in our neighbourhood nice capture.
Nearly all the hawks are gone but I did see two Northern Harriers today and also at least a dozen kestrels I managed to get reasonably close for a couple of shots.

I have a new Bigma 50-500 HSM OS coming in a few days......Here are a few recent shots from my old original Bigma 50-500 I bought in 2007. I hope to get as much joy from the new one as I have from the old one!

Lots of superb shots in this thread! I particularly like the butterfly on the last page by Michaelina2!

All shots are handheld shot through my office windows with the K5IIs + Bigma 50-500.

Regards!
