You certainly seem to have that new lens dialled in Gary, nice shots - I didn't realize you had a healthy otter population in your part of the world

Nice shooting Gary
I like your quote - was George Best the originator?
How is the focus speed of your FA*600? versus the Sigma 500? It is a lens on my wish list and one that is hard/impossible to try out. I guess the FA*600 would be in the squander pile
Thanks

Not far from where I live there is a family of otters around a few lakes so it's a case of waiting for them to turn up.

The quote is a variation of something WC Fields said.
As for the focusing speed of the FA*600 versus the Sigma 500mm i would say that there is not much in it. Like you say it's a bit of a gamble not being able to try one before you buy it, it's a bit of a beast ,but it's not that bad to wander around with. I would say if you get a chance buy one,you only pass this way once

I never tire of those great little Kingfisher shots!

Any idea what happened to them? Maybe they got word of your new blind and went up your way for pillage and robbery? They are similar to squirrels in their plundering.
Never mind Norm....I think I spotted the answer while scanning the Woods of Otis with my Bigma. Looks like Otis is running low on ink....or needs a new printer.

This was at a small pond almost completely surrounded by trees. You have to take an overgrown trail through thick brush and low-hanging tree branches to find it. I found it once by accident, and have been there many times afterwards. I've only ever seen birds around there. This time, I wasn't alone.

Lookin' good Norm!

You shoot what you've got.....If I had those little Kingfishers here they are probably about all I'd shoot...love 'em!

Unfortunately I have squirrels...and lots of them..so that's what I shoot...mostly.

This little girly was showing off her new winter coat this morning.....lovely!

Be nice if a few peanuts could make us this happy!

I've found that I can still use TAv with success if I back off the ev one stop, avoiding overexposure, and adjust in processing.

Regards!

NOTE: Someone send me a box of those Kingfishers and I'll stop posting squirrels.....I promise!

We had an irruption year of Common Redpolls last year. Hoping to see that again this year. There is talk of a Snowy Owl irruption year again as well.

Very nice redpoll images... did someone bring them over on a ship or something? Or are they native to both England and Canada?

The Common Redpoll is native to both North America and Eurasia. But the British Ornithologist's Union considers the Lesser Redpoll to be a separate species rather than a subspecies of Common Redpoll.

I had to look it up
