If you haven't been in this thread for a few days, like me....Stop Right Here!!!

Go back a few pages and take a look at the fantastic shots posted....don't just drag and drop your new shot and move along. There are some of the best/most interesting shots in a while on the past few pages.....don't miss them!

Now I will drag and drop my gluttonous pig.....feel free to feed him....it's getting too expensive for me.

Regards!

That is problematic with a zoom. The SR will be correct at whatever focal length you chose, but not at the other lengths the lens can be set to. There is no really good setting for a zoom lens. I tend to set it at the geometric mean, but that gives to much SR at the wide settings and not enough at the longest settings. As a practical partial solution, I use 1/mm set for the longest focal length. On the 55-300 with AFA 1.7x for example (I know, I'm just seeing what it will do - you never know) I will maintain a 1/500" shutter speed. That means high ISO, but I am getting more comfortable with that on the K3.

Love to watch sanderlings chase the backwash, then run up away from the swash.
I think that first one was caught by surprise - they're not usually in such deep water.

I wasn't expecting the woodpecker to land on the feeder while I was sitting almost under it taking pictures of some other birds with the camera on a tripod. When you already have the 1.4X on the Sigma 100-300 lens there's nothing you can do put zoom out and swing up. Not the most comfortable position to be in bent over looking up. haha
210mmx1.4=294mm = 0 cropping haha

The problem is the focal length does not report properly with the TC on. So instead of setting the SR for 350mm it stays at 250mm. If I keep the shutter speed high enough or use a tripod it shouldn't be a proble. Guess I better start saving for the Pentax one.

Your eagle shots are always terrific Travis. How close do you normally get to eagles and how do you do it? Do you track them or locate a nest and wait for them to return? Thanks

Bob around here the Eagles will be in certain trees by the river, I will walk up slowly and wait with the lens on a monopod and hopefully they will launch when I am ready.
Distance is different with every photo, I will walk 5 feet and take a few photos then move a little closer till the Eagle gets twitchy.
There is not a lot of eagles in Grand Forks compared to the coast.
If I am lucky I will see six Eagles in a 50 km drive.

Appreciate you posting all these great animal shots. You must have made a trip(s) to some great locations.

My wife loves to travel, so we did quite a bit during the film era. Now we're both retired so we can pretty much travel any time of year, no worry about whether our off-times from work coincide, and only two of us, no extra cost for the kids, plus two retirement incomes, mortgage long since paid. So we start thinking about next year's special trip almost as soon as we unpack the luggage from this year. It's a curious but perhaps normal phenomenon. When first married, we used to think carefully about whether we could afford to go out to McDonald's for lunch on a weekend (really!). Now we think: should we go to New Zealand next year on a special botanic tour with a local wildflower society? Sure! Spend it now before a rest home starts to collect.

A very large pigeon in New Zealand. K3 + Bigma. This one suffers from being hand-held (should have skipped that second cuppa)

Consider a smaller size of raptors captured on last month.
