Who is going to buy a FA*250-600mm?
These were taken from my car using a K-5/FA*600mm f4 ED[IF] on a Kirk window mount.
This is a Tree Sparrow ,these are quite scarce in the UK

I'd love to have a 250-600 but I'm not sure I could lift it onto a tripod!

I'll help you lift it on as long as I can borrow it for a few months of the year

We could go halfsies but I think the shipping back and forth would be rediculous. Plus I'd have to sell my house, car, and all my photo gear to be able to pay my half!

Ya, he'll help you lift it into his car, and then help you lift it out when he brings it back.

Makes sure you get any additional lifting in advance of the lens use.

Dark and gray today. The didn't stop Otis' northern cousins from trying to keep all the Juncos away from the ground under the feeder.

Juncos don't like to feed on the feeder. It's a platform feeder but they still get nervous about it. So they sit in the Trumpet vine and wait for the squirrels to go away.

I lowered the shutter speed to 1/80 sec. Too slow to handhold the 150-500...the AF didn't want to lock onto the head either...

You can see it's mating season...

The female Junco is the bravest when it comes to the feeder. The AF still wanted to lock onto her chest. Maybe I should have set it to 9 point...

1/80th is way too slow for Chickadees.

When the Cardinals showed up I doubled the shutter speed to 1/160 sec. ISO 2000 isn't all that bad.

Not quite enough DoF at F/8

Also keep in mind these are all through a dirty window

White-tailed Kites

Here's another one at 630mm (DFA 150-450 + 1.4TC). A bit soft, yes, in morning light at ~180ft from my front porch.

Amazing how getting close is better than having a clean window or no window. OoF dirt does't affect the image much, when afternoon comes light hits your window, the reflections kill you though.

The way the house is oriented the morning light is worst. Sunrise hits the window and in the afternoon the sun is on the other side of the house. But once the leaves come out that part of the yard is in shadow most of the morning. There's a 50 foot sugar maple in the back yard...

From the photos that I can see here, seems to be a huge drop of image quality between the DFA150-450 and the FA600.

One of them is a $1,700 variable aperture zoom. The other is a $7,000 * prime. One of these things is not like the other...

You mean Ricoh going cheap on the new lenses having super duper HD coating ? or is it coating on top of cheapo glass? I guess FA600 would have to be compared with DA560 then?

Some of the softness in the image of the kites may be motion-blur or missed focus point. The pine needles at left look sharper than the two birds. At 630mm it takes precious little to miss the plane of focus.

Right, there was motion blur; I had set up for the perch on the right, did not refocus, and swiveled a bit to catch the bird on the left. Actually, I'm surprised I got this shot at all.
p.s. The two birds were not in the same focal plane; the one on the left was closer.
