Sorry for your losses!
I wouldn't like to experience this, but like UserAccessDenied said, it's material, and can be replaced... (even though a F*300 is not evident nor cheap to find... do you know its serial number? Maybe you should post it here?)

sea lion needs dentist

It seems that California sealions have moved into the Colulmbia River. A whole herd of them have taken over the city docks at Rainier, OR

Some have raised the issue of sharpness using a TC---- This photo was taken used the FA 300/f2.8 with the HD DA 1.4 TC and a K3 and is cropped significantly.

It was raining pretty hard at the time and I think the occasional vertical streak are rain drops.

I try to stay optimistic about the whole thing. I am just glad I am not in the position in life where I have to break into homes to get the things that I want.

Be sure that these dudes don't HAVE TO break into someone's home, but it's so much easier and faster than to be at work, day after day, year after year. And if police fail to protect your possession then the recommended shotgun sounds like the only alternative.

I also disagree ... I have lot's of good shots with that combination (just look at the HD TC thread)

I would try to get access to another body and another copy of the HD TC to trouble shoot and isolate the problem... I know it's not evident, but that would be ideal...
I have another K3, but no extra TC. I will try mine on my other K3 to see if there's any difference. Thanks.

Did you de-noise?
Very clean for ISO6400 on the K3 (unless it was a different camera?)

Looks like the 300+TC is working out again!
Nice shot.

Thanks. With the K3. NR is turned off in camera. In LR, not denoised, and sharpness slider is at 25. The photo is uncropped. The noise is there.

The sun is shining and it's mild enough for me to open an upstairs window above the feeders for a few minutes. House Finch, K-3 with DA*300mm, 1.4x teleconverter, hand held, cropped.

Couple first attempts last december with da*300 + hd-da1.4x. Trying to gauge what I think about this setup, my intentions were to get in some occasional birding stuff since I live in Florida. How would any of you approach such background conditions, to me this seems way to busy for my tastes? Should I focus on these types of birds in wetland areas primarily? I am a complete newb when it comes to this type of shooting so any advice would be appreciated.

I'm an opportunist. If the opportunity is there, I shoot. Bushes, trees, wetlands, ditches, rooftops, etc. Even if you don't like the photos, it's still practice for next time. A good photo of a bird in a weird location is still a good photo.
