I'll tell you what, that is one bird I could do without. They seem to displace all the other species.
Yep, they are nasty buggers. Once I saw one attempting to kill a sparrow, had the poor thing pinned while pecking at it. A hand clap broke things up.

Another superb shot Ken. Not only finding the bird but finding it when it poses with food for you Now that is special and must mean hours of stalking.

Encouraging. Could you share your initial feelings about autofocus with the K1 - AF.C and tracking functionality? Thanks.
Actually I haven't used AF.C yet. I've just been pressing the rear AF button each time I take a shot.

We were lucky enough to catch the last hour or so of a major migrant warbler "fallout" at Point Pelee (north shore of Lake Erie) last week. We were told that earlier there had been as many as ten birds in one small bush - we had to be satisfied with several in view at any one time!

Male Chestnut-sided Warbler

Female Chestnut-sided Warbler

Male Blackburnian Warbler

Male Cape May Warbler

Female Northern Parula

Blue-headed Vireo (not a warbler)

Just how lucky do you have to be to get there at the right moment?

Just a review, it was an amazing year for Pine Siskin Photos around my place, at one point there were probably 400 of them gathered at my place, waiting for the country further north to open up and pigging out at my feeders, eating up to 16 quarts of seed a day, and emptying a black oil sunflower seed bag from the Feed store, every 3 days at $37 a pop. A snow storm that covered most of the ground where they'd normally forage for food made my place even more popular and gave me great light. With all that opportunity, I was bound to get a few great images. All these are from April this year.

I've still got a few left, but I question whether I'll ever have an opportunity like this again. Before this April I had maybe 10 Pine Siskin images altogether, all with a feeder in the image.

Nice!

I never knew what these birds were called...
I see tons of them around my go-to spot for shooting eagles.

Nice series!

Thanks. We see them often as well, getting photographs however is difficult in normal circumstances.

Point Pelee is known for these "fallouts" but in the 25 years I've been going there this is the first real one I've seen- often it's good (sometimes it's really quiet) - sometimes, like the following day, there are fewer birds but more rarities. 25 warbler species have been recorded so far today. On Friday people who had been going for 60 years said they had never seen anything like it - and there wasn't even a weather event like an overnight storm that you would expect to bring the birds down.

It's always worth going - often the birds are in "pockets" rather than spread across wide areas. Plan to spend 2 or three days (or more) to improve your chances - those eye-level shots of warblers are much harder to get at other times of the year.
