Up till today I have been rather fudging on how I did my lens calibration and I have looked at the Lensalign and spydercal types of calibration accessories but they seem to start at $100 for some cheap plastic so I went out to my shop and decided to come up with my own design. I had an old wooden meter stick, some electrical tape for the sight and some scrap walnut and in little over an hour this is what I came up with. I installed an insert in the base to allow me to attach it directly to a tripod.
I made it larger and it has larger increments than the over the counter types and I think it will actually be better for the longer lenses.
After a number of test shots I found I only needed +1 adjustment on the camera to have the depth of field centred on the focus point. I included two shots taken with the FA*600 the first at 50ft and the second at 20ft. It works just awesome and expect it will eventually become a family heirloom

For years woodpeckers have been coming to my feeders and getting drinks; and until today have never seen one take a bath!

1. Am I pretty?
2. How to blow dry.

Cross posted in post your photos.
Return of the Hummers.

One of our hummingbirds turned up yesterday, and was flying in front of the kitchen window. "Hey dude, where's my feeder?" I went over to the store a bought a new feeder, last years had become pretty ratty, and put it out, by now, two males and female are present.

K-3 and DA*200 and F1.7x AF adapter.
ƒ4.5, 1/2000s (fixed) , ISO was the variable using TAV
Plus audio bomber's tracking settings which I've programmed into the U1 function. It slows down the burst, but every shot was in focus, hard to argue with that. ISO was either 1600 ISO or 2500 ISO.

Later the same day... out in the sun to get the ISO down (it's as high as 5000 ISO on those first images.)

The female, she's harder to capture.. she doesn't come around as often and tends to land in places where she's partially blocked. I used the stacked TCs for this, but problems with DoF had me taking the 1.4 off for the next set. I also set the shutter speed down to 1/1600, and didn't like it. I put it back to 1/2000 for the next set.

With the stacked TCs giving me 476mm she pretty much fills the frame.

Male

Maybe if I were to purchase the K-1 it will make me a Pro like Rupert?
Do you have SR disabled while shooting? If not, that might be a contributing factor to the softness of your photos.

I sure don't see anything wrong with your photos. If I could get BIF's like that, I would be smiling, non stop!

Sorry it was pinholecam, and if you zoom in on this you can clearly distinguish the license plates on the cars in the parking lot. At least you could when I first opened it. I wonder if it's posted a higher res version somewhere.

Ok, here's the one where you can read the licence plates in the parking lot. Simply amazing detail, and the pixel shift makes the colour really amazing.

Who needs Macro gear when you can get shots like this with a DA*300 & DA 1.4 TC on my K3 I also used a tripod in windy conditions but I'm happy.
