Had spotted this Northern Flicker's nest next to a beaver pond 2 weeks ago, the chicks hadn't emerged yet and didn't have enough lens. Made the trek this morning with my new K-1 and a DA*300. Was glad to see the chicks had grown so fast, stayed through two feeding sessions even though the mosquitos were eating me alive - worth it.
nice shooting

You were close! How is the K1 with the DA*300? It almost becomes a longish portrait lens on that body.

About 40yrds, as close as could get standing on a small patch of mud, chest high in grass & salmonberry bushes with a small window through the trees - not a easy place to get to, but that's what makes it fun.

The K-3II might have been a better choice because of the distance, but got to try out the new toy. Though even with the crop, still seem to come out pretty good with not much PP.

Here's a few more as I'm slowly wading through the 77 photos that were taken:

And nice shot of the quail! These are skittish birds (you would be too if you were a food source for, like anything!). Even with the 560, you had to be close!

Regards,

I would love to see one of these in person...
Have not yet had the pleasure!

Great shots!

3 Corn Bunting close ups from the car with my K-5/FA*600mm F4 ED [IF] on a Kirk window mount. I kill the engine and coast to a stop usually in the right position, this time I was nearly too close.
