I'd been hoping for an opportunity to get some pics of the gadwall and chicks - they finally emerged from their reedbed lair last week (finally got round to pp'ing). Novoflex + K5

A cormorant was on the wee raft again, giving me the chance to have another look at the novoflex 400mm + kenko 1.4x combo (= 560mm f8). K5, bean bag, remote shutter cable, focus check x10 LV. I stopped down to f11 (=f16) and even f16 (=f22) to try to up the DoF to keep the wing span in focus. No 1 was actually from jpg, rest from RAW. Update: revised PP, bumped exposure contrast, bit of defringing.

At the RSPB I tried some more long range shots. There was a nice juxtaposition of a couple of egrets, a heron and a swan on one island, and the cygnets hanging out on the next island with one of the parents.
However these results weren't as good. Last effort was of this heron - 1/250th, 800ASA, f11. This is a 100% crop. You can argue the results both ways IMO, practical consideration I can't afford a lens that'll make these look bad...

The novoflex attracts interest and I started chatting with a visitor from Australia, he was using a Nikon P900 superzoom/bridge camera. Its 4.3mm to 357mm (f2.8-6.5) lens with the 1/2.3" sensor (16MPx) equates to
24-2000mm (!!) zoom. Impressive piece of kit actually. Not for me though - not without RAW capability. Reading
some reviews its clear the P900 relies on its internal noise reduction to spit out jpg's. But it's piqued my interest - we have had some discussion and examples esp with the Q/Q7/Q10 of getting extreme ultra TP with small sensors, I suspect that results with a custom designed lens are likely to tend to be the best. Perhaps s/o could post some examples from this or other superzooms so we can see for ourselves...
