Kudos to all who have posted in this thread - the variety and quality of photos never ceases to amaze me!

Some shots with the K3 and Sigma 50-500 EX DG:

1. Apostlebird
2. Azure Kingfisher
3. Welcome Swallow
4. Australasian Grebe

Fantastic shots, especially the swallow!

Thanks Dieseler. Swallows in flight are really tough to capture - this was the best of 40 or 50 frames, most of which were not in focus.

That swallow is a fine capture, and I can attest to the one-out-of fifty capture rate from my own attempts with swallows. Their flight is soooo fast. For all they are gliders, and a much bigger target, shear-waters skimming over the ocean present a similar challenge. Until you try to track them in the viewfinder, you don't realize how fast they are sailing with essentially no wing movements. Of course it's logical for them to be moving fast, otherwise they couldn't generate sufficient lift to stay in the air.

Excitement at the RSPB - only the second time a great white egret has been seen here. Couldn't get a close shot, here's your "where's waldo" pic amongst the little egrets (K5 + DAL 55-300mm):

This heron was more cooperative (K5 + tamron 31A 200-500mm).

yaahay gotcha! 100% crop. Clunky ol 31A did ok actually. 450mm F10, 1/1250th, 800ASA, bean bag on sill.

Yum yum.

The great egret again, not quite 100% crop. You can see the tendency of the 31A to haloing, even though I have tried to correct it.

Very fine pictures. Love the colors and detail of the Blue Eared Kingfisher.
