Any chance you have a 1.7x AF adapter? My big burning question is, will my A-400 ƒ5.6 focus with the F 1.7x AF adapter on a K-1? I know it won't on my K-3, but maybe the K-1 is better.
I dont have a A400/5,6 and I dont have a K-1, but I just got the AF adapter today and tried it on various lenses to test it with my K-5. It does focus with some of the f/5,6 lenses I tried, and not with others. f/5,6 is really on the edge of what it will focus with. Even the difference between f/2,8 and f/4 is noticeable.

If you're like me, next you'll be wondering "How much does that A-300 2.8 weigh?"

In case it's of any help, I can testify that the Vivitar Series 1 1.4X TC does autofocus reasonably with the Sigma 400/5.6 APO-Tele Macro on my K-30. I still haven't made myself do a test of how it affects IQ - combination of too lazy and don't want to know the answer, if it's not the one I want...

Finally I got some time to play with new K-3. This camera is awesome. With the optional battery grip feels like a glove. Image quality is very good.
I love how quiet the shutter is, I even got a comment from a friend who shoots with Canon 1Dx who likes the quietness of K-3.
Here are some samples from this morning. I absolutely love 8.3 FPS on this body
I like to keep ISO 1600 or less so I shot this pics with my SMC A* 400mm f/5.6 wide open to keep ISO low. Normally I shoot this lens at f/7.1 (sweet spot)

K-3 and SMC A* 400mm f/5.6...1/640, ISO-1600, f/5.6

It was able to AF the 55-300 which is a F5.8 lens. That isn't what norm wants to know. Norm wants to kow if the A400/5.6 will AF with the F 1.7 AF adapter on the K-1. The F 1.7 adapter was designed to AF F2.8 or F4 manual focus lenses with the primitive SAFOX autofocus of the SF-1. But F5.6 is just outside its capabilities it would seem, even with more modern autofocus on the K-5 or K-3...

If I recall correctly (which I can't guarantee), the 1.7x would AF on slower lenses IF you had lots of light and a motionless subject.

Fabulous shots fella. Top notch. It is very notable how quiet the K3 is when using it next to Canon users. It's quite right than the wife's Nikon too, but not much. Canons literally sound like Canons 😀

and are using a tripod so that the camera was motionless and the subject has good contrast at the center focus spot.

I use the 1.7 behind an M 400/5.6.

I've failed to lock focus even with direct sunlight, and worst of all it didn't know it hadn't locked focus. I focused and shot but the images were all blurry, even with subjects 6 feet away from the camera.

DA*200 ƒ2.8 with HD DA 1.4 TC. (280mm ƒ4)
400 ISO, 1/100s-1/500s ( AV mode), ƒ5.6

Anyway, today's endeavours.... First the regulars.... everyone knows the regulars,

The stealthy Nuthatch, point your camera at the feeder an wait for him to land, he's too fast to track.

The Blue Jays, there's a family of 3 and at least 4 or 5 others.

You can have as many Chickadee pictures as you want... and lots of different birds to choose from. They line up on tree branches waiting for their turn at the feeders. It works kind of like a 4 way stop sign.

And of course there's the rodents....

Earlier the same day, along the roadside.

The star of the day, I think this guy liked me....

#1 &#4. Awesome! (I have a redbreasted nuthatch that visits occasionally. It's a real treat when he visits.)

Mine waits for me to fill the feeder every day. He wants first pick of the chopped nuts and raisins. The minute there's food one the feeder he's there, sometime waiting on my hat for me to go somewhere else.

Everyone (including my wife Tess) seems to like the chipmunk.... funny, I like the chipmunk but my favourite is the bird on the wire. The photographer can take the picture, but he can't control what everyone likes. Oops, I didn't even post that one in this thread....
