Hardly...

... Roman Emperor Hadrian (AD 76-138) sought "peace through strength or, failing that, peace through threat."

Although it doesn't surprise me Ronnie might model American foreign policy on the Roman Empire.

So far as I am concerned no living thing is "common" at least in the derogatory sense - for me all life is exceptional.

Also a Monarch pausing on its way south.
Lovely shot of a lovely creature - well done.

For beauty alone, I agree, although the lines of the Zero are nice, too. Very pure. There is just something about 8 .50's and a 2000hp Pratt & Whitney double wasp that called to me. No beauty, but imho no longer ugly after the intro of the P47D25 and later variants.

The Spit and the Mustang were like sleek quick trout to the Thunderbolts largemouth bass.

All the planes of that era have great appeal to me. I feel they were the last aircraft I could wrap my head around...if called upon I could assist in changing plugs, replacing cockpit instruments, yank a cylinder, change hydraulic fluid.

With jets? They might let me wash a tire under close supervision...
When the P47 first arrived in Europe the other fighter pilots were dumbstruck by it's size. They would tease the pilots with quips like evasive maneuvers consisted of running around on the wings dodging bullets. Once they got to fly with it they were amazed by it's capabilities. Nothing cold keep up with it in a dive and it's top speed was as good as any fighter airplane of the day. It was a superb fighter plane but was mostly relegated to close air ground support due to total amount of armaments it could carry, It's lineal descendant is the A10 Warthog.

Beautiful shrike!

Thanks for the kind comments on my air race images. As a reformed helicopter aircrew, I favor the fling wings. Having said that, The P-38 'Lightning' has long been a favorite. For modern warbirds, the A-10 just looks like an airplane waiting to destroy something.

Wildman's Shrike looks like it's waiting to destroy something as well - great shot.
Must say the warbler was harder to photograph than the Monarch, but agree that the Monarch is a better shot.

Yes. His sense of color, composition, simplicity and light are always first rate. He can really make that Sigma dance.

I imagine most everyone in N. America has seen this bird whether they knew what it was or not.

Dark-eyed Junco...

Very secretive hard to find bird at least in my area. Loves thick wet thickets and bogs.
I had to take a canoe deep into the Upper Mississippi Wildlife refuge and camp out over night on an island to get this pic.
Not rare but loves wild remote secluded spots where it can be left alone by birders and photographers like me.

Lincoln's Sparrow...

I've only seen on once, but I didn't have to camp out...just walk in wet grass at Derby Hill Bird Observatory...

Do you mean your long isD shots are nearly as good as your K3 shots ?
