Nice waterfowl on the pond in Pittsburgh's North Park. Shot with a Takumar 300mm f4 (version 1), stopped down to around f7, on a tripod with a K-3. He did me the favor of hanging out in that spot for a good half hour while the sun went down.

A portrait of a gull with insignificant crop. This gull held her/his ground as me and UserAccessDenied walk by on a narrow boardwalk. I am guessing we were within 3 feet. This is virtually an uncropped portrait at 600mm. The second shot is just the eye and you can see the boardwalk and the two of us in the pupil's reflection. Closest I've been to a bird in the wild.

This puts a whole new spin on the term, "bird's eye view"! Nicely done!

I have a pet that looks like that (about 1" though) in my office. He's under the filing cabinet and won't come out. Great shot.

I met up with UserAccessDenied who took me to some of his favorite spots at Assateague Island. We found an Egret who stalked a fish early in the morning. The Egret got the fish and speared it with both parts of its beak and had difficulty shaking the fish off to swallow. The third through the fifth shot took a minute or two, the fish just wouldn't come off. The Egret finally did get breakfast but not without some extra work. Uncropped images.
It was great getting out there with a fellow Pentaxian!

Great captures, Bob!
I've yet to go through my camera from that day... Wallpaper removal and rewiring light fixtures has been my life since Sunday.

George S Patton reincarnated as a bird. Lead, follow or get the hell out of my way. The nictitating membrane just adds to the look. 600mm

Great shots, Norm. That lens (and you) are sharp as a tack.

Nice closeup of the gull, love the eye shot. Which 600mm lens are you using??

Some really nice shots. I love the lens output and the shallow depth of field at f/2.8. Funny , I was looking into buying this lens, and end up getting Pentax M*300mm f/4. Tamron 300mm SP f2.8 is very hard to find in Pentax mount. Great buy, you gonna love that lens, it offers tremendous quality and flexibility with it's f/2.8.

That is some great shooting and also a great "nice photographer"
Thanks for the nice comment. I was searching for that owl for awhile, with no luck to find it, and then I bumped in to photographer which I have seen him there before and he mentioned that he got some good shots of Great Horned Owl and I knew right away that is the owl I am looking for. He was more than happy to walk me to that spot where he saw it earlier and it was still there. This thing was huge. Now I am on the mission the get some flight shots of that bird, maybe this weekend if weather and time permits

Don't tell me that, I'll start looking for things that are wrong with it.

Like my DA*200, I have to turn off all sharpening with it. Even 10% sharpening produces artifacts.
