K-1 and Tamron SP AF 300mm F2.8ED {IF]

The light is fadeing....

ƒ6.3, 800 ISO

Blue Jay

Chickadees

ƒ4, 1600 ISO

Black Eyed Juncos

At the size these are cropped to, I could have used a K-5, but, it's nice to have some crop room.

And how about those squirrels....

Last weekend I tested out K1 + Sigma 500 F4.5 with 2 teleconverters, Pentax 1.4x TC and Kenko 1.5x TC, I guess I should share with everyone the differences without, with one and double stacked teleconverters. Glad to have this Grey Heron be my model and he posed down there for a few minutes.

All pics 100% cropped

Posted the last shot earlier, but post again to show the resolution and sharpness is still good with double stacked teleconverters under good lighting...

My A* 300/4 is getting a lot more use now that I have the K-1 and I also don't have any other FF lenses above 100mm.
K-1 & A* 300/4

K-3 and Tamrom SP AF 300mm F2.8 ED [IF] and either the HD DA 1.4 TC or the SMC F 1.7x AF Adapter
The AF on the Tammy using the AF adapter is just really smooth.

I traded TCs off and on all morning, so if you really wan to know check the exif, most of the time it's right.
I have to say, on APS-c using the Tammy and 1.4x, 420mm and ƒ4 is pretty amazing.
I was shooting close to wide open, if not wide open, to take advantage of the colourful leaves on the ground of interesting out of focus areas. They just kept falling while I was shooting.
Many of these are taken in shadow, the other reason for shooting wide open.
It was great using my trusty old K-3 again today. 8 FPS instead of 4, and extra 50% reach and 20% more resolution, making my 410mm the equivalent over 600mm, and my 510mm the equivalent of 750mm. I bought the Tammy to use with the K-1, but, there's no law says I can't use it on the K-3.

I discovered the flock of sparrows I've been seeing is made up of many types of sparrow. Here's a few representatives of each.

White Crowned sparrow

American Tree Sparrow

White Throated Sparrow

Black Eyed Juncos

My guess is many of these are migrating right now.

A few of the regulars were around too...
White breasted nuthatch

Norm - the first one is a White-crowned Sparrow (first-year ones are brown around the head) - one of my favourites, and they have to be passing through on migration as their breeding area starts at James Bay and extends all the way up to the Arctic coast.

Thanks, change noted and corrected....

So, I went out this afternoon with the K-1 and tamron (just with the 1.7x, to maximize my reach. Fortunately, many of the birds walked almost right up to the blind.

Tamron 300 2.8 + F 1.7x AF adaptera = 510mm ƒ4.5, most of these taken at ƒ5.6

It may not have quite the same reach, but if the birds (or other wildlife) are going to walk wight up to you, the K-1 is sure nice to have.

Some incredible photos above, great details on the birds and animals. Well done fellows.

My longest lens has been 210mm, so until now I have not posted here. Recently I picked up a 500mm Tamron SP with a film camera I bought. Wasn't expecting much when I photographed this hill 8 miles away. Turned out OK I think, but what are your thoughts about mirror lenses? Taken with a K1 with minimal PP.
