Has she ever got those great "dancer" legs....very nice.
Thanks. It's all stage light and dancer. She's one of the hard working young dancers at the school I shoot for. Week before, we made audition photos for next summer intensives. Most are head shot and first arabesque. She nailed the arabesque on pointe in one frame. Showed this on my blog and FB and her Mom approved so I shared it here. She's very young, 12 or 13. Been there six years and watching them grow in ability is inspirational. My assistant for the audition session was 12 when I started in 2010 and is now with the Carolina Ballet in Raleigh.

This Kestrel was hovering above the car which made it very difficult to get camera on [I had to lower my seat]
Taken in low light. K-5/FA*600mmF4 ED[IF]/Eckla window mount.

Better light for these.

Too close again

With our trip to Niagara Falls, leaving the sparrows for a week without food, it appears they've all left for the south. Not a bad idea since I'll be leaving for a week over christmas as well, and it may well be too cold to migrate by then.

So I'm left with the birds who store their food, or who live here all year anyway without a food supplement, a lot of Blue Jays.....

What kind of sparrows, Norm? Some migrate, some don't.

It could be that they just took your yard off their feeding route. Goldfinches will do that in the winter when they feed in small flocks. If you let the feeder go dry for several days, they stop wasting their energy and time stopping around your place and expand their daily foraging range in another direction. Sometimes you can get them back a few weeks later, but maybe not if the new yard they found has a more dependably filled feeder!

Had an Indian Summer day here in Syracuse, we're getting 8-12 inches of snow Sunday/Monday, so I took the lil'Bigma to the Zoo.

(A lot of these are less than 300mm...)

The big attraction at the moment is the 2 Red Panda cubs born in June. They just went on public display last week.

Mallard are seamless in their breeding with other species...

Multiple very fine images in that set. Looks as though the red pandas were being especially cooperative. From appearances, they should make cuddly pets, but I doubt very much you'd enjoy one around the house

White Throated Sparrows, one juvenile White Crowned Sparrow, and a bunch of Dark Eyed Juncos. If it's like other years, we'll see them all in the spring. I've been putting out a feed they will pick the oats out of and I though they might stay around this year.

Tess, is opposed to zoos. I won't tell her where you were, praise.

We only see the Juncos and White-Crowned in winter... I've hardly ever seen a Junco at a feeder. They seem to prefer feeding on the ground...under the feeder. I'm trying to remember when I've seen a White-Throated and what time of year it was.

Scaly-breasted Munia taken on last week. I'm using KS1 with Sigma 150-500mm HSM.
