if you look at those images in my previous post, it would give you an idea of the color: The 300mm plus lens Club discuss your long lenses.
Thanks Weevil - I think I'm in the ballpark. Of course this was while we were looking for a reported Virginia Rail (not exactly what you would expect on a snowy December day) but I missed that one.

Are any of these with a flash?
I love the lighting on the 2nd shot - white bird, not sure what it is?

Nice shots!
I never use flash. I do spend a bit of time making sure I'm in a position where the light is as I like it. I'm not sure what any of these birds are. I need to take an image of the poster they have on display so I can identify them.

I do have new flash waiting for me up in Whitney, but I won't be able to pick it up until after X-mas, so maybe that will change.

Part 3 of the Bird Kingdom series, taken in the main aviary which is 3 stories high and has birds flying all over it.

K-3 and Tamron SP AF 2.8 LD [IF]
ISO 800, ƒ2.8, AV
Last in a three part series. These birds were hard to get, I should have brought the DA*200 or the K-1 body. I had all kinds f trouble getting the larger brides in the frame. Some I had to settle for head shots.

South to Niagara Falls, which is as far south as I go these days, since the country of my birth insists I now have a passport, not a birth certificate to cross the border. It used to be they couldn't keep me out. I think the new regs were passed just for me. Someone at the State Department was assigned the task "How do we keep Norm Head out?" "I know, we'll make him apply for something, he'll never get around to that." It's worked so far.

Caught this guy this PM
K-1 + FA*250-600
Light was really low and the bird was pretty far, but the high ISO performance of the Pentax K-1 helped a lot!
If you look closely, you'll notice that there is a twig in the bird's claws. It's because he just captured a rodent, and he's flying to a post to eat its meal.

That's a wonderful shot Weevil - I look forward to the opportunity to come even close to getting Short-eared Owl shots like that.
