One thing I miss about the DA 560mm is the weather sealing. I wouldn't have been able to get this close to get this shot of Mr. Handsomepants if not for the weather sealing. Looks like I'll have to make a rain cover for the 500

Now I'd like to introduce you to Amandine...
Amandine is a Female, "Grey Morph" Eastern Screech Owl [Megascops asio] that also lives in the wholes of the big trees of Parc Angrignon in Montréal.
She frequents Victor during the nesting season, but like many "modern" couples, they live separate and apart the rest of the year.

This photo is a HDR merge of 5 images (I should have done a Pixel Shift image in body, but I didn't thought about that in the field... maybe next time!).

Very engaging bird images posted by both neopolar and Weevil. Makes we want to travel and muscle-in on their locations.

Hi Kameko - great shot, but I don't see a "Mr. Handsomepants" in my field guide. Does he have another name?

This brave Red-Winged Blackbird confronts the White Headed Sea Eagle (also known as Bald Eagle)...

Not happy with how extreme I had to crop, but the subjects were interesting so I thought it was post worthy.

How cold was it? - about -5C (or 22 F) when I started out, with a brisk wind off the lake:

This is when the Long-tailed Ducks seem to be having the most fun (their tails - or other feathers - pop up when they have the wind behind them)

White-winged Scoters aren't as common:

These two late Shovelers were huddling with some Mallard ducks.

Unfortunately I missed my main target - a male Harlequin Duck was close to shore just an hour before I got there.

All taken with K-3, DA* 300mm, 1.4x TC.

Thanks Steven. Mr. Handsomepants is also known as a Northern Harrier. Adult males are dark grey and known as "grey ghosts".

Who said that big cities are too much polluted to take good pics of our Moon?
This photo was taken from Parc Angrignon in Montréal, Quebec, Canada on 2017.01.07 at dusk.

Ken, that's a collection of Flycatchers that few will ever get! Beautiful captures all.
Amazing pictures of the snail. I'd be happy to be at the "beginners level". Never tried focus tracking but maybe I had better!
Thanks woodywesty, glad you like this collection.
