With the sun out and temperatures in the 50s I had to go to the zoo...

Unfortunately there was freezing rain last night on top of the snow from earlier in the day. This left the boardwalk rather slushy. On one of the downhill portions my feet went out from under me. Luckily no damage to the K-3 or 150-500. Even the 18-135 in my backpack survived.

Many of these less than 300mm.

That's a great collection Boriscleto. The red fox is really handsome. And however does a bobcat* do that with its tongue?
*Pretty sure that's a bobcat curling its tongue.

it's a lynx... when in doubt, check the zoo's website! i want to be able to attach sound or speech to text files to each image, so after i take a picture, i can add info like "ground hornbill" and so on.

THIS IS BEAUTIFUL!!! I've seen an infinite number of great photos of the moon, and never get tired of it. Thanks for sharing, amazing image.
Thanks a lot! I also always enjoy shooting the moon, especially when the sky isn't completely dark, so the blue sky comes out like this!

A couple from my travels today. A Great Horned owl and a hawk, possibly rough legged or broadwinged.

Of course now I see the tufts on their ears. They're just enough disguised by the background that I missed them at first.

Yesterday was sunny, today it's dull and raining with snow expected. Taken through an open patio door at ISO1250, 1/100 K-5/Fa*600mmF4ED[IF] on a Gitzo 1348 tripod.

I am cheating a bit, because it's not really 300mm, but rather 280mm...
Actually, this is the DFA70-200 + HDTC (on the K-1)

Anyways, just wanted to let you know it could make something interesting for close birding (I know there are a lot of birders here)

P.S. This one just hit the Flickr Explore page BTW

What a wonderfully healthy, fit, well-groomed, capable-looking kitty.

Even though I've had the A 1.4x-L TC for nearly 2 months, I haven't had the opportunity to use it until recently. Still working on sussing out its foibles, but if anyone is interested here are a few used with A-400/5.6:

The first is uncropped, the last 3 each had about 30% cropped away. Camera was K-5 II.

Would you ever consider doing a write-up on the forums talking about your techniques?
Where you shoot - what hours of the day - typical setup - solo or with team of people - blind or no blind - how do you track down your subject, or is it pick a spot and wait?

I could spend 40 hours in the bush and never get a single one of these photos. Yet you achieve lifers.

You have an incredible talent. What we see is the fraction of a second the shutter was open; I'd like to hear about the process to getting there. - If you are willing to share of course!
Thanks UserAccessDenied, the credit to these lifers goes to the bird guide of Chiangmai, he brought us to the locations of bird's habitat and some feeding ground. I just need to shoot with the correct settings (TAV with auto iso). The ideal number of shooters not >2, sometimes we shot from inside the car while driving up the mountain, if there are 3 shooters then the one sitting at the right will not be able to shoot. For feeding ground we shot with hide setup. As this is my first time shooting there, 90% of the birds are lifers.

My last shot from last year - Heron in flight, taken with K1 + Sigma 500 F4.5 + Pentax 1.4x TC @4.4fps

Yep... except it's not a kitty size kitty, as one generally encounters. It looked to weigh in around 60 pounds and was about (not quite) the size of a German Shepard...

Cool cat, though. I gave it plenty of room to go on about its business.

Cheers... M
Looking at the bobcat on your Flickr, it looks as though your lens front-focused a bit?
