It was a cold cloudy day

When we had visitors in the back yard. A group of elk were browsing down here because the snow pack is very deep at higher elevations than ours. This is not common; they prefer to stay away from us. According to my iPhone, the altitude is 3,815 ft/1,162 m here in my basement office. The elk are perhaps 15 ft/4.5 m lower.

This yearling decided that the branch the four older females (one pregnant, we think) had passed up was the one! The expression in the second shot is priceless.

Nice Gator Bob! Reminds me of a Natural History Magazine cover I taped to my wall back in the '70s.

Very nice series Ken!
Thanks Luis, glad you like this series.

As some of the forumers has commented sometimes it's good to shoot bird not in the clean & clear background,
I've this shot taken to show the environmental background with the bird deciding whether to continue looking for food on the ground or get into the branches and scan for food from a height?

Ubiquitous juncos on the ground (their preference) and up on the platform feeder.

Thanks Woody. I have to say that was one of those things I didn't discover until I opened up the file on my monitor. I was pleased with the detail on the bill on that one. Still looking for the Harlequin!

Very nice, Kameko!

Below some DA*300 + 1.4x TC shots
