I was able to locate this young King Eider today - not as pretty as the Harlequin I've been looking for but a lot rarer I think. Very poor light - now I'm thinking I should have taken off the TC, reduced the shutter speed (it was sunny a few minutes earlier) but at the time you just want to get the shots before it swims away - which it did after a minute or so.

K-3, DA* 300mm. 1.4xTC

Now for the utterly mundane distance images today. Concord, NC/USA Regional Airport end of runway swamp and two urban residents of Lake Costco, Winston-Salem, NC/USA. K-3, A/400. Dubious chemical analyses of both

Sharing the Crested goshawk nesting at Eastern part of Singapore. Visited twice but only managed to catch the female guarding nearby the nest. They are two chicks and I believe should be fledgling in two weeks time.

The chick (believe the youngest)

The adult female:

A short video clip on the chick and the mother:

The little tit* in the first series of picture is a really a gorgeous little bird, and could not be photographed better. The wasp is a great capture. I am always looking forward to what you will post next.

* Blue tit perhaps? I don't know European birds, and can only manage some NA species reliably (Robin, Crow, Duck)
Thanks a lot! These are eurasian blue tits, correct.

And here's European green woodpecker (alas, very shy bird...).

Green woodpecker, very handsome bird. Akin to, but bigger and more colorful than the red and yellow shafted flickers of NA. Like them, I think it likes to forage on the ground, especially for ants.

Just a duck with a Vivitar (TX mount) 400mm f5.6 - Tokina made 5 element version. f8, samsung NX20. Not bad (big crop - 1656 from 4759 wide, then exported from LR3 and resized in Faststone) - gotta be happy with results like this from a fifty bucks lens - but not my no 1 400mm.
