A few more winter Florida beach pics. All of these with the K-3 and the DA*300mm without the TC (these birds are not skittish!).

Thanks zzeitg - you've had a lot of great posts lately. It's wonderful to be able to wander out to a beach and have so many opportunities, though the variety of birds isn't what it was a few years ago.

I can imagine. Bohemia is a landlocked country, but we have plenty of fish ponds here in the south. Regrettably you can mostly meet only ducks ashore during the winter time

DA*300 @ 420mm
Wood warbler (I think...). Very small bird, all the time frenetically moving.

I haven't had any seed out all winter, my window is too fogged up for pictures anyway. So I went to the nature center for the Great Backyard Bird Count today. It was 60F in February...

Not a bird.

A scene from a day spent hiking in the Everglades (not 300+mm) The rest are from the hike at 300mm or more , a type of Vireo(?), a blinking Ibis, a gator in the sun along with one in your face, a green heron, an Ibis parade in the road and a red shouldered hawk

I hope I'm not breaking any rules by asking a question here, rather than posting a picture... I was just wondering, if anyone could tell me if the new 55-300mm would be the way to go, if I was looking for a budget lens, with good AF and IQ. I would be using it at 300mm, for entry-level birding. My 18-135mm just doesn't cut it in that regard. I would also be open for more expensive lenses, but only those that cost at most 500€. If I need to move this post to another forum, please tell me! Thanks
