By the way... I'm wondering... how many Pentax users have bought this lens (DA560)?
There are only 3 items listed in the Serial Number Database here on Pentaxforums. One of them is mine copy.

Any estimation how many DA560 have been sold by Pentax in total?

Something tells me that the number will be really small. And consequently (and it makes me sad), that the probability that Pentax could release something like DFA500 f4.5 (together with decent TC DFA 1.4x or 1.7x) is close to zero.
I bought it but only because is have been so unsuccessful that the price went low enough, I haven't use it enough since.
That is a similar problem as the FA* 200/4 macro except that the 200 macro was a better lens (the 560 design has an handling issue) but it came on shelves with the worse timing possible. If we see a new "wildlife lens" I think it would be à D-FA*300/2.8 maybe with 1.4x or 1.7x TC but not next year. A 1800$ K3 successor with a brand new AF would be the best indicator for new long lenses to come but right now the targets are landscape and portrait with the K1.

K-3 and Tamron AF 300 ISO 100 ƒ11
K-1 and DA*60-250

The day started off easy enough, talking to a guy about a mink. Get your minds out of the gutter, you people are disgusting....

This mink, not that other kind of mink.

But most people it turns out were coming to see the otter. This guy

At one point, I guessed wrong, they guessed right, he ended up right in front of them not me. Great opportunity to take their pictures I think.

Surprising what a good portrait lens the Tanmmy 300 with the 1.7x on it is. Everyone looks so natural.

And another opportunity later, I had the 40XS on the K-1 for just such a shot.

There's the otter on the right hand side. Looking like this.

As I drove home I noted that they had crossed the creek to get a better angle to the evening sun, K-1 and DA* 60-250

You know what they say about Algonquin Park. Be there or be square. Just in case you wondered what all the cool people were doing.

p.s. Southern Ontario people thinking of coming up for a photo-op, check the weather before you leave, there's a freezing rain warning in effect right now.

BIF with manual focus

I'm sure I've posted this in another thread years ago but it may be appropriate to share here as well.
Shot at a local game park with the K5 and a MF Sigma Apo 5.6/400.

... another one with the same combo but obviously a lot easier to focus

Very nice.
I frequently go to even 3200 ISO on the K-1, you get better shutter speeds and if you are close enough, very little loss of detail.

Bohemian Waxwing outside my window today with Sigma 500/4.5

Pileated Woodpecker from yesterday. Shot with the Sigma 400/5.6 macro. Not really having much success with this lens for some reason. IQ was always not very sharp.

K 3 + HD PENTAX-D FA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6 ED DC AW

and the pattern on the back of this Drake Mallard is interesting as well not to mention the droplets of H OO

Out with the K200D

Every once in a while I take my trusted old K200D out. Yesterday combined with my old manual focus Sigma 4.5/500.
Seems that I did a better job shimming the split-screen for the K200 than for the K3. I got a very high percentage of shots with the focus pretty much where I wanted it to be.
Here are 2 examples. You can click for a larger version at my Smugmug.

FYI: I remember when this lens was introduced simultaneously with Sigma's 300 f4 AF macro. Most testers thought the 300 had somewhat better IQ than the 400.
