Sharing the Rufous-throated Partridge (Arborophila rufogularis), a species of bird in the Phasianidae family. This is my second time meeting up with the partridge, first time was the King quail around July, 2015 in Singapore.

Found this gem from January, shot on a clear and sunny but otherwise quite cold day. I put out four kinds of feeders for many kinds of visitors, later counted 12 species of birds coming for the daily winter menu.
One of the feeders had a piece of butter that a pair of woodpeckers found quite tasty.
The one pictured is stopping for a moment after a satisfying butter feast to look at the weirdo pointing at him(her?) with a camera.

Hooded merganser, a long way even for 600mm and a substantial crop.

Two from yesterday:

Lens was Sigma 50-500 OS HSM on a K-3

Lessons learned: Switch lens stabilization to panning mode, and don't go over ISO 3200.
It could've been such a good shot...

A great blue heron perhaps?

Looks like a Purple Heron to me, but either way, great capture.

It is! Thanks for the help. It was more of a lucky shot, it got spooked and flew right into the sun at the perfect angle. Sun to my back, bird turning away from me, in the zone, burst away.

My feeder has been visited by essentially all the same birds that been coming to normhead's place, although I haven't seen any grackles as yet.

a lucky shot
Luck is good. You can have great skill and super gear but without a bit of luck it's all in vain.
And then there are those of us with limited skill who depend on luck to get a good shot from time to time.
