I have decided to act on a suspicion that reflections off my (shiny black) FD 400mm might be startling the birds. Cheap (well I say cheap but knowing this sort of material actually costs c. 99c /m wholesale it wasn't so cheap..) pvc camo off ebay - ideal stuff actually, sheds water, doesn't pick up dirt, slightly stretchy to make a good fit.
I have a metre of the stuff, if you would like a strip of 10-15cm (x 150cm) to do your lens PM me with your address - UK only sorry.
If you're wondering what the black ring with a knob on is at the mount end: that's the CFD-NX adapter, with an added rubber ring+ wee bolt. This adapter can act as a M42 style M-A switch, so the bolt is how I manipulate it with a finger of my right hand, stopping down just before pressing the shutter.
And that's my custom long late underneath, so I can mount onto my monopod at the balance point (usual mode)
Sedge Warblers.
Is there a sedge warbler boom? Seems like they're everywhere. I've taken more pics of 'em in the last week or so than in 3 years prior. This guy was over at Morfa Madryn N.R. ( I went looking for the Citrine Wagtail s/o had spotted - nada of course). He was close actually, but I was trying to snap him through the wafting fronds and brambles, and it was into the sun. Came out better than expected actually..
These guys were at Conwy RSPB on different days.
Update: this one with a Sigma APO 300mm, f11, that I was trying out. Lumix G1 (M43). More on this lens
