problems:

in getting the ducks and the hunting wolf in focus seem minuscule in light of their problem in trying to prevent the wolf from eating their eggs on the low area of the Yellowstone River bank in the Hayden Valley of the Yellowstone N P

the fact I couldn't find my remote shutter control probably hurt my chances of super clear photos of this Great Horned Owl and its chick south of Roosevelt Lodge.

[ most of the time, every bird I tried to capture refused to face the camera too ]

you do what you can I guess

I've never had to use the remote shutter control, although I've seen Nikon users who claimed it was the only way they could get sharp images. A sturdy tripod and a 2 second delay always works for me. If your tripod shakes in the breeze you need to add weight to it or get heavier one.

yeah, I got a backpacking one because I thought it needed to go on the carry on. it ended up in checked luggage with no problems

I will know better next time

2 second delay resulted in the darn birds moving on me

Osprey

This osprey has babies in the nest but they are not big enough to be visible. It will be interesting to know how many young has hatched.

K-3- DA*200 ƒ2.8 and HD DA 1.4 TC
100 ISO, ƒ8, AV mode 1/60- 1/320s

I spent the afternoon out replacing the yoke on one of our tandem boats I am converting into a solo boat. There were butterflies and a few moths, so I kept the camera close, but in the end, just flowers.

Not a butterfly, but hey. What can you do?

They have a slightly different perspective than yesterday with the macro lens but surprisingly similar as well.

One of my companions. There's always time to stop and throw a ball for my extremely patient dogs. Waiting for me to look up.

makes you wonder how they would work on something else

I saw my first Ruby-throated Hummingbird on my trip to Quebec! The birds on the east coast are very, very different from the west coast. Very different (and striking) colours, songs and how much more bold they are around people!

Manual focus w/the K1 and Sigma 500mm

Black chin hummingbird nest

I am checking on the progress of this nest in my backyard. No babies yet. I am using a partial blind to conceal me and yesterday used my 1.4 xl converter on the SMC A* 400 f2.8 to get a little closer.

The wife and I just celebrated our 49th wedding anniversary with a cruise around the Hawaiian islands. One of the highlights was cruising by the Kilauea lava flow on the island of Hawaii at night. According to initial info from the captain we were going to be about a mile away - I suspect we were closer - the following photos were not cropped, only heavily processed because of the incredible noise.

All shot with Pentax K-3, Pentax 55-300 PLM lens (at 300mm), ISO 51200 and either 1/4 second or 1/6 second and handheld on a moving and swaying ship.
