Not a chance that my english vocabulary would include such knowledge. I wouldn't have known that even in finnish.

Much like yesterday today, it raining off and on. I try to keep a camera close (while building an outhouse) incase something catches my eye. Yesterday's photos,

K-3 with DA*200 2.8 and HD DA 1.4 TC.
ISO 100, ƒ8 AV mode.

It's more specifically an Arctic Tern...

Arctic tern - Wikipedia

The name is very old deriving from Old English

They have a remarkable migration. 70,000 to 80,000 kilometers a year...

Merlin

Merlin standing on a street light. I wish the surrounding would be more natural but I will take what I got.

Be sure to cut a window large enough to use the building as a photo-blind for birds. Beats re-reading a Sears catalog.

Back yard visitors

Recovering from dental surgery, out on the deck with the K-3 and DA 55-300. All photos at 300 mm, TAV 1/500 @ f/8 hand held.

We have a brown headed cowbird in the tree, two shots of the Stellers Jay, our provincial bird, and the ubiquitous voracious tree rat on the ground. He can no longer get to the feeder because we have a baking pan hanging on the pole below it.

ARROWLEAF BALSAMROOT Balsamorhiza sagittat

https://plants.usda.gov/plantguide/pdf/pg_basa3.pdf

This was the most spread flowering plant we found in Yellowstone National Park, [ we were a week or two too early for the usual wild flower explosion ]
