Nice photo Dave, unfortunately these guys rank rather low on the "photogenic" scale they have a face even a mother is going to struggle with

Even with vultures - "beauty is in the eye" although it's hard to ignore the rest of its face.

Aye the egrets are the same. I just routinely drop the exposure at least a stop, bring back up in PP as necessary. Softer light with a bit of cloud can help.
Your pic looks a bit under on my monitor Terry.
Yes, it is a bit under exposed, the result of me pulling it back a bit in PP.
I have revisited this image a few times since posting, and now agree it probably looks better with the original camera exposure.

Cheers,
Terry

A couple from the Murray River.
The first, a Sacred Kingfisher. K-1, 150-450, handheld. A big crop.
The second, a Superb Fairy-wren. K-3 II, 150-450 + 1.4xTC, handheld. This bloke had no fear at all, almost too close to focus.

Cheers,
Terry

This club has some amazing photography! Just received a K 300 f/4 from a forum member today. I’ll post a test shot or two soon, hopefully they hold muster to what I’ve seen browsing this thread!

The K 300 f/4
My first shots with the lens. It has a very creamy bokeh. Shot at minimum distance (13 ft) and f/4.

Shots from a flock of half a dozen Horned Larks (Shore Larks in UK). When birds are busy feeding and the flock seems to be moving in your direction, it often works if you just settle down and wait for them to come to you.
