The Colugo's family seems like progressing well in the local park...

Shame about the ISO, definitely not its strong point. Unless light us good anything above 800 is horrid.
I've been looking over some old shots taken with the K-30 - that sweet 16 sensor could definitely go a stop or two higher in the ISO than the K-3. I've started to think about a K-P - but what's really required is a new APS-C flagship model. Oh well, just do what we can with what's available.

Here's a bush rat (rattus fuscipes), a rather endearing indigenous Australian species. Also K-3 + FA*300mm f4.5.

I also thought about the KP, but I hated the way it feels in the hand. I've given up on Pentax being successful in matching Canikon in the noise control stakes. I bought the wife a D7500, it's way better at high ISO, sor I've gone that route as I also wanted a 600mm zoom, something we don't have. I'm still keeping the Pentax gear, but will sell my zoom stuff.

Looks very good. As I would expect from the DA560.
A question: how was Auto focus with this combo?
I use the DA560 on the K3 and am not happy with the at times buggy AF. So much so, that I am contemplating going for the Nikon D500 and the Sigma 500/4 sports. My alternative is to wait for the next Apsc body from Pentax, but they will have to do some serious upgrading on the processor and the AF unit compared to the K3. I have never used the K1 thoug, and was wondering if it is more desicive and accurate with the DA560.

I prefer to do my own blurring for noise control, thanks. I turn off all in camera noise reduction by choice. If the camera does it, you cannot undo it, whereas if I do it -- and for awkward stuff I use DxO Prime -- I can undo it and get the details back.

The 560 required some AF adjustment. +5 in my case. But the AF is satisfactory. If struggles with birds in bushes with lot of twigs to interfere.
I haven't used other set to compare. You could try renting/borrowing a K1 to find for yourself. But please check your AF adjustment. It sure makes a difference

Today at Algonquin Park

K-3 and Tamron AF 300 2.8 and HD DA 1.4 TC

A squirrel proof bird feeder attachment thingy..

Near the feeder or on the feeder.

At the beaver pond, K-3 and Tamron AF 300 2.8 and F1.7x AF Adapter

With the K-1

A little bit closer, slightly different angle with the K-3, just incase you were wondering how much difference 24 MP APS-c makes. Less background, more subject.

This photo shows the DA 560 with the tripod leg reversed, perfect center balance on the Wimberly head. A little machining on 2 of the tripod leg bolt holes is what was done here. Right before I took that photo this rabbit showed up, about 7 feet from my tripod. Not afraid of humans, he ate and came up to inspect my Bogan 3033. I had to wait about 15 minutes for him to move out past 14 feet so I could focus the A* 400 F 2.8 w/ AF 1.7 adaptor!

Unfair comment. Spring is a long way away, much later than the calendar says up here.

Interestingly enough, I've just asked about this on another forum a couple of days ago. I have wondered how effective the in camera noise reduction is, and whether it may add noise. I have only ever had it switched on for anything above 800 though. I never add blurring, or anything much really, just a bit of darken for contrast. I've never had the time or patience to learn photoshop etc.
