If you are still near Sanibel you might want to try a trip to Corkscrew and the Naples Botanical Garden. I was there last year in Jan/Feb and am headed back for a couple of weeks again. Corkscrew has a nice boardwalk - bring a better beamer if you have it with you. Naples Botanical Garden had Roseate Sponbills that were on the water. I do not know how much hurricane Irma damaged these places but they are good photo outings.
Thanks Bob - we are back in (cold) Toronto now but we did pay a visit to Corkscrew the day after those pics were taken. There was substantial damage from Irma and only part of the boardwalk was open until the whole trail was re-opened about two weeks ago. There are several places where huge sections of Cypress tree trunks had been removed and new boards had been installed, but overall the place seems to have survived reasonably intact.
We had good views of Roseate Spoonbills from the southern part of the Indigo Trail in the Ding Darling Refuge - a reliable spot for us.
You might want to google the STA (Stormwater Treatment Area) 5 facility near Immokalee. We were there last year - huge water impoundment areas with spectacular numbers of birds. The local Audubon Society runs driving tours every couple of weeks - otherwise you can't get access in a vehicle. Take your longest lens as you are often viewing over long distances. It you are lucky you will see Caracaras patrolling for roadkill on the way there.
Further images coming - you wouldn't want me to post them all at once!

Warmest wishes to all for the holiday season and 2018!

These two images of the same red squirrel were captured through glass of a sliding door with handheld Pentax K-S2 and smc Pentax-F 1:4.5-5.6 100-300mm. They were processed in Lightroom 4 and in the Nik Collection's Viveza 2 and Dfine 2.

Images are cross posted from Picture of the Week and Got Squirrel Shots? threads.

Over the past few days I've seen a handful of Rusty Blackbirds in my backyard. Wikipedia tells me that they are classified as "vulnerable". I don't recall seeing them previously. So far I've seen 5 males and 2 females, but I've seen the males each of the last 4 days whereas the females only once.

I wonder if any of my East Coast compadres have seen any?

"Vulnerable". Such a nice way of saying the population has declined 85-99% in the last 40 years...

I've never seen one, but we do get them here. Mostly during migration. But there have been a few reports this month. The mid-Atlantic is in their winter range...

Florida Scrub Jays were almost eliminated from Cape Coral, Florida when it was cleared and drained for development, but there is still a small remnant population.

When the land was cleared that made room for another endangered species. There are Burrowing Owls living year-round, with burrows even on small lots in the middle of the City.

There are also lots of Loggerhead Shrikes around:
