I noticed and was somewhat surprised at that. Not sure what happened. But then, I think the year on all images from the Africa trip are 2063 = back to the future. Good to know all that wildlife will still be there.

Many different birds visited the watering hole, showing not too much concern with me being 30 feet away, mostly hidden sitting behind my lens and tripod, but they all kept one eye on me during their visit.

sigma apo 500mm f7.2 + K5 vs sigma apo 400mm f5.6 + samsung NX20

Coincidentally, the sigma apo 500mm on my 16MPx K5 produces the same sized (in terms of pixels) crops, given the same bird the same distance away, as my sigma apo 400m on my 20MPx samsung NX20. So is there a discernable difference in the results from these combos, if I consider a suite of pics taken with each (the busy feeders and the pond at the Spinnies providing the subjects)?

I'll post later which are which, or you can cheat by right clicking and checking image info...but basically the verdict is the 3 most important things with either combo are 1. focus. 2. focus. 3. focus...

I received all of my Pentax gear. My initial impressions are very positive. The lens, tc and camera all have excellent build quality and weather resistance. I also like the reasonable size for what I’m getting. I can fit the 300 mounted on my K3 II, with the lens hood in place in my Think Tank Streetwalker bag for easy access. If I rearrange my bag a little bit, I can even fit it with the tc installed.

I haven’t done extensive testing, but images seem sharp with great color and contrast. AF is a little on the slow side on the lens, but really not bad. It reminds me of shooting the Canon 100-400.

Enjoy your equipment! As you say it produces wonderful results even if it isn’t the fastest combo, the IQ is top class!
