I just had a couple of weeks at the beach, in a unit surrounded by noisy birds.
Most of them stayed so well hidden that ASIO, or even the CIA, could not have found them!
Here is one that wasn't so shy;

I had a little play today with a Teleplus SHQ 1.7x TC on the DA*300. So 300 x 1.7 = 510mm (x 1.5 + 765mm)

Not a great combination as you have to disable the SDM or you can't get focus lock.

Begs the question as to why the hell it locks on screwdrive but not SDM.

Any way, here are some of the results.

Thanks everyone for the comments and likes on the flamingo. Here's a green heron, also with the DA* 300 1.4x converter combo:

Accidentally had focal length set to 85mm

These shots were on my K1, using my M*300mm @ f8. However, I realize all my EXIF indicates this is 85mm. I had switched lens, and failed to change the focal length.

Weird thing, all my shots with the incorrect focal length of 85mm, turned out sharper than the shots using the correct focal length setting. Iím new to DSLRs, so I donít have a good understanding of why that might be.

Any info would be appreciated. I did a quick auto-correct in LR, and cropped the sundial shot, but otherwise these are not manipulated.

Something to do with the Shake Reduction, perhaps?

I believe the SR has something to do with the overall length of the lens. The M is a compact lens, much shorter than the typical 300mm lens, so perhaps this is the reason (or part of the reason).

Tawny Frogmouth, on what must be a favourite perch for these characters. I have almost identical shots from about a year ago.
The eye might appear to be shut, but you can bet that I am being closely observed!

K-3 II, DFA 150-450 + 1.4xTC, handheld. See exif for shot details.

Cheers,
Terry

From today, K3 DA*300 (no TC today).

A new raptor. Peregrine Falcon. In less than twenty seconds this bird did a circuit that would take me more than 30 minutes! 100% crop.
