That's a fine trio - good detail & lighting, pleasing background bokeh. I'm jealous.

Its funny you mention lighting, I have to fight that every day in my yard, the battle to keep ISO down and F stops up [forgot to mention shutter speed!] - live oaks, white oaks, persimmon, mexican plum and cedar elm cast shadows that change all day and the wildlife here loves shadows! The A * 400 has a paper thin depth of field under 60 feet so F8 to F16 with ISO under 400 is what I hope for but very seldom get.

G'day, Alfa, is that kite at Point Cook? Think I've photographed the same one/pair.

No, it's at Braeside Park, Braeside. There seems to be only one but it's there most of the time.

Well, this is getting ridiculous.

There I am trying to photograph the Black-shouldered Kite at too great a distance when I see another raptor above and behind it.

Next thing I know:

Name: IMGP5819acs.JPG
Views: 292
Size: 718.7 KB

Unless I miss my guess, it's a Brown Falcon or a Nankeen Kestrel.

So the list of raptors visiting the park is now:

Black Falcon. probably.
Black-shouldered Kite.
Brown Falcon or Nankeen Kestrel.
Brown Goshawk.
Little Eagle.
Peregrine Falcon.
Square-tailed Kite. probably.
Swamp Harrier.
Wedge-tailed Eagle.
Whistling Kite.

It's getting to the stage where I wouldn't be too surprised to see a Bald Eagle (or a Moose) flying over.

Wow ... I gotta get over there. It doesn't appear to be a big area. Where would the Wedgies nest?

I think it was only passing over, I have only seen it on two consecutive days.

It's at the apex of a lot of open space to the south east. Have a look at satellite images (Google Earth or Maps).

I think it's a female Nankeen Kestrel. A Brown Falcon would have dark 'trousers'.

Cheers,
Terry
