Originally posted by Skog Pentax is apparently debating whether to name the new telephoto lens DA or DA*, that at least has to be a good sign in terms of image quality. A DA* lens means more than just weather sealing. I would say from the images I have seen, not personal experience, tells me the DA* lenses are sharper. I would assume the 60-250mm & 50-135mm beat the 50-200mm & 55-300mm, the 16-50mm beats the 16-45mm easily and so on.
What it also means though, if I can steal a line from the Notorious B.I.G. (popular rapper from the 90's), is "more money and more problems." I've only had one SDM lens and I have heard the rumors that there is a 2nd version of the SDM motor, but right after I sold it I got a message from the buyer saying that the motor had failed and I don't want that worry with a $2,500.00-5,000.00 investment.
