Thanks Mark. Would be great if they dined exclusively on blackbirds, starlings, sparrows, rock doves, Spotted Turtle-doves and Common Mynas!
I'd throw in grackles and cowbirds!!

And the English (house) sparrows, possibly the most abundant bird in the lower 48 although they do not gather in huge flocks as starlings do sometimes.

List of invasive species in North America - Wikipedia

The birds...

Columba livia (rock pigeon)
Cygnus olor (mute swan)
Haemorhous mexicanus (house finch)
Molothrus bonariensis (shiny cowbird)
Myiopsitta monachus (monk parakeet, Quaker parrot)
Passer domesticus (house sparrow)
Streptopelia decaocto (Eurasian collared dove)
Sturnus vulgaris (European starling)

House Finch is a North American native but introduced to the east coast. Nobody really seems to mind...By that definition it's not really an 'invasive' species, the whole list has many 'introduced' species that aren't really 'invasive'...Rock Pigeon, Mute Swan, Monk Parakeet, House Sparrow, European Starling all meet the criteria for 'invasive'...

The trick there is I'm shooting in locations where the back ground is along way back from my subject. There is a narrow wetland with cat tails etc right behind the Whitney fire hall. It's great location for the Redwinged Blakbirds, and the Chipping sparrows were on the Fire Hall lawn.

Hey, come to think it, I have more 300mm shots from the day.

Well, I took 162 shots today. 159 of them are of the Kite, 156 at 5 to 15 metres and 3 at 100 metres. I could safely delete 155 of them without losing anything as there is very little variation.

However what I am working on is letting the Kite get used to me so that hopefully I'll get something really special.

Today, at the end I really wanted it to fly off so I'd get a different shot but I had to give up and it was still there over half an hour later. Meanwhile it was blowing a gale and nothing else was about.

The ditch between the road and the old rail line has filled in with milkweed. I walk by four distinct areas that have at least 3 monarchs almost available on demand. This seems to be a bumper year for midweed flowers.
