Thanks all for your comments. I don't now if the bird is male or female, but its partner where nearby, because they were breeding. Here they are both together.

Sadly, not there at the moment. These shots are from a while ago but I only just got my image hosting sorted out so I thought it was time to catch up.

Seeing this lady lunching in the lake was a highlight of my trip to Alaska. She wasn't the least bit concerned by the people nearby, I did make sure there was a decent number of people between us as well as some substantial trees.

Cassin's Finch

I haven't been able to post for several months between work and my son's wedding preparations my camera has been gathering dust but I finally had a chance to get a few shots. Cassin's finch with the male feeding a juvenile. They seem to deliver a little pellet of food.

A volunteer sunflower grew just below the deck, one seed of a few hundred pounds of black oilers from winter feeding.
Goldfinch have been pulling the still "wet" seeds and stockpiling them on the back of the head, I assume to let them dry for easier cracking.
I don't think Flickr will show the info for these, but they are with the KP, DA 300* plus 1.4 HD TC, f6.7, 400 ISO.
Cropped (shot through a gap in the deck's balusters).
