The flying warehouse. We are under one of the approaches to the nearby military airfield (Westover). Some weekends they practice (I think) coming and going. Windows do rattle when they go over at much less than cruising altitude.
I live right next to Hancock International, which is also an ANG base. Because it's one of the least busy airports in the NE they use it for touch and go exercises. But we rarely get the big planes over our house, we live in the flight path of the shorter auxiliary runway which is only used when the wind isn't in the right direction for the primary.

They fly Reaper drones from the base now, so when they are practicing they fly over my house. It's better than the days they flew F-16s. Having the entire wing fly over your house at 200 ft early on a Saturday morning was not nice.

I knew the wife of someone who was on the crew of one of those monster planes that fly out of Westover, I think he was actually a pilot. She reported that the crews really hated the touch-and-go exercises.

From awhile ago, my memory was that these were taken with DA*200, but the exif says 500mm, so i must have been with the 1.7, or 1.7 and 1.4 stacked.

There is a school of minnows underneath them, they are doing their picking and choosing. This was one of those times when Pentax AF.c tracking worked flawlessly. It was pretty incredible to watch, I had the full grid highlighted and the red highlighted focus points flashed and changed position as the lens moved in and out tracking the birds in flight. I don't get such opportunities very often.

Haven't posted one of our Eastern Yellow Robins for nearly 6 months. So we're due! K-S2 + DA 55-300 PLM at 300mm.
Great detail and colors!

I was stalking up to this guy on a railing on the side of the road and it flew catching me off guard. I wish I would have been more prepared, but it was still nice to get my first shots of a Carcara.

Thanks Daniel.

You might have been caught unprepared for the Carcara, but it looks like you were quick to respond. Well done.

I can go well prepared, set up beforehand, and never get a shot as nice as those.

I think that it is because you were able to capture those shots while being caught out like that makes some of us very jealous of the AF of the D500 and a little unhappy with our beloved Pentax.

That is the main weakness of Pentax for wildlife. A K3 iii with D500 AF would be perfect.

So long as it has an on board flash, a GPS wouldn't have helped here (but I'd take both if I had to):
