A pretty quiet time bird-wise on my walks just lately. I need a fairy wren to brighten up my day! A couple of common locals:

Cardinal

K-3, DA*300mm + 1.4 x DA TC

Northern "Yellow Shafted" Flicker (you can see one of the yellow shafts on the primary wing feather)

Same as above but without the TC.

Today I was out in the blind out with the K-1, Tamron 300 and Tamorn 2x TC for (drum roll), 600mm ƒ5.6
First thing, it was really nice to have AF on the 300 as opposed to the partial AF of the 1.7x
Second, I was dying to try it out, but the light wasn't good and I ended up shooting at 3200 ISO. The noise was so bad I couldn't really evaluate the lens. Tomorrow at 400 ISO will be better. The oversample was such, you probably won't notice either noise or loss of detail.

Tomorrow a retest with lower ISO, and some K-3 shots. The K-3 with it's higher pixel density should provide a better idea of the sharpness of the combo.

The rest of those who were present.

I dunno Norm. I think a lot of folks would love images like that at ISO 3200 or 100 even.

Ya, I'm spoiled for sure.

The thing with the K-1 is, the amount of oversampling hides some of the softness in these images that I usually wouldn't tolerate, especially with the K-1. I have no idea why. No one is going to want to do a 36x24 print of one of my grackles, not even me.

This is what he thinks of Pentax for shooting wildlife.

Meadow Pipit

There's just something about a 600 f/4 that is pure magic... Nice shots!

My studies have shown that 8 out of 10 New Holland Honeyeaters prefer to be photographed by Pentax. K-3 + FA*300 f4.5.

K-3 + DA-L 55-300

Of course! Honeyeaters are a species apart, just like Pentax.

This seems to supersede my study showing that they prefer the Pentax K-x and Bigma combination:

Shown before elsewhere - any Pentax works with the Honey eater: K20D with 50-200 - (sorry a bit short for the topic but wished to join the Pentax Honey Eater festival).

I'd say it complements your ongoing research into the photographic preferences of pardalotes Craig.

Nice shots. Are the plants kangaroo paws? (For our non-Oz members, yes that really is the name of a group of plants).
