It was a miserable day today. Cold, snowy and even freezing rain.
I went out nevertheless hoping to get more familiar with the F*600 f4 but this is the only bird shot I got that is worth posting.
Taken on a monopod..

What happened? (I've had a cracked rib - very painful and hard to breathe deeply.)

Did you have to ask? I'd like to be able to say I was rolled on by a massive Elephant Seal, but actually I slipped in the bathtub at the hotel! We had about 2 1/2 hours of off-road Land Rover riding the next day, which didn't help. Very painful at times but the painkillers seem to working.

I'm not laughing. I was carrying a portable fridge when a step broke under my foot. The fridge landed on top of me. Another time I got bruised ribs when I was trying to tip our pet wether to trim his hooves; I fell over and Oscar stood on my chest with his full 110kg weight. I wish I could say I was making a citizen's arrest of an armed robber or snatching a child from the path of a train, but there's no glory in these injuries!

Astonished to see this Buff-banded Rail turn up in our bird bath last week. They are rather secretive and the only significant water body nearby is our neighbour's dam. K-3+ FA*300 f4.5.

That's how I cracked mine 20+ years ago; I slipped in the bathtub at the hotel in Spokane WA where we enjoyed a Glen Miller weekend. I still get twinges.

We should start a cracked/bruised rib thread for mutual commiseration (and consideration of the photographic implications). You're sure it wasn't a Glenmorangie weekend?

You could have passed it off as a tricky dance move gone wrong Albert. ;-)

There was no chance at all of falling on the dance floor. There was no room between couples to do more than a twirl with our elbows held close in. It was a really fun weekend. Luckily my fall came the last night before we came home.

Never heard of that. It was one of the Glen Miller Bands and Claire and I were among the youngest in attendance, being born in 1940 and 1942.

It's a single malt scotch whisky. It's expensive, so you would have to spend quite a bit to get inebriated.

Getting back on track:

Magellanic Penguins (this seems to be the species that has been co-opted by one of our Canadian banks for its advertising)

Magellanic Penguin by its nesting burrow

Imperial Cormorant

British troops fixing up the memorial for HMS Sheffield on Sea Lion Island. The ship was sunk with the loss of twenty lives during the Falklands War in 1982. (Edit - sorry, I just noticed that this was taken with my Tamron 90mm macro, but I'm not sure where else to put it.)

Now I promise I'll head down to Lake Ontario and find some Long-tailed Ducks to photograph!

K-3 and DA*60-250 with 1.4TC, or DA*200 1.7x

Feeder creature , finally some sun.

That peanut feeder is really popular, sometimes 2 or 3 birds are on it at the same time.
