400mm f5.6 SMC-A Sunset

I put my just acquired vintage 400mm f5.6 SMC-A to the test last evening. The sun drops down a power line right-of-way cut in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. Shot handheld on a K-5iis.

Taken late in the day. With these long lenses I have had significant degradation of the picture due to atmospherics, but when it is cooler one can get shots like this impala ram looking regal

Purple Martins

A bird from this area (Amherst Island in Lake Ontario) was geotagged a couple of years ago and was re-located on an island in the Amazon River.

A few shots from a trip to Yellowstone in early June, just got around to processing. All KP and DFA 150-450. All pretty much at 450. There were definitely times I wished I had even more reach.
The grizzly and cubs were feeding on an elk fawn they had just killed. You can see the distressed elk mom in the photo...she wouldn't leave, even though there was nothing she could do.
The bison pics were taken in a moderate rain. Was definitely thankful for the Pentax waterproofing and not having to worry about taking the camera and lens out in the rain.

Great shots! I saw the BOAC 747 at Heathrow a few weeks back.

I remember "spotting" BOAC Comets, Britannias and 707s as they flew a few feet above my head on the direct approach at Ringway Airport, Manchester when I was about 10 years old, but I didn't expect to see a 747 in that livery!
