Hmmm, how common is common, how rare is rare? These shots were taken in a large suburban bush park (250 hectares 620 acres). The people that are the best at spotting them counted 26 in one day but there may be 2, 3, 4 times that number (and those 26 now have new chicks). There is a 3 hectare 8 acre park across the road from me that probably has 1 or 2 pairs but I haven't seen any.
Or to put it another way, probably more common than Pentax shooters (I think I'm the only one in the 250 hectare park)

Even the adults will stare at you sometimes, I've even had them stretching and preening. But yes, most of the time they are just branches.
