Fun capture - dolphins almost always make me grin.
Thank you, I always wonder if I’m smiling at them or are they smiling at me...

Good thing you had the backup, nice capture. Kind of surprised to hear of a 150-450 falling apart.
it been reported by several members here

luckily, I found a local craftsman here in Topeka who was able to repair it for me

Thanks for the link - I don't really follow that section, had no idea of the problems.

Wow. I had no idea, and I've lived in Joisey my entire life.
I read that several years ago, but I don't think land-use practices have changed in those two places in ways that would change that balance much. One has to remember that a gigantic chunk of Colorado is east of the Rockies and consists of dry virtually treeless range land. Then in the mountains you have steep rocky slopes and areas above the treeline where there are few trees. New Jersey, by contrast, is extremely well watered, and, while it has some hills and low mountains, they would in most cases create refuges for trees not impediments to them. In New Jersey, anywhere you don't cut trees, they will be popping up and growing; you can't make such a blanket statement about Colorado. Some of New Jersey's older towns probably have enough mature trees in them to call them forests, if not wild forests. New Jersey is known as the Garden State. There are a lot of trees in that garden.

I have maybe 500 chromes taken of this nest. IQ suffers dreadfully in the scans. Nikon FA, 500 f4P and 2X Nikon TC (unit for long lenses only). The parent (male - with red cheek) has a beakful that looks as though it were taken from a suet cake. Also, this nest was "discovered" by Boston-based camera club (one of them overheard me telling a friend about it). So the only time I had it to myself was early AM, when it was backlit (notice the rim-light). so I used a strobe (Sunpak 444) with a Fresnel unit, powered by a big battery (near instant recycling through 300 flashes).

This photo makes me happy! The pileated woodpecker has been a tough get for me, and to see your wonderful photo and read what went into making it is just really awesome.

Beautiful, fun shot.

Are they still called kits? Or pups ? The group is called something like a skulk?

Sharing the Oriental Magpie-Robin, super friendly while waiting for the Daurian Redstart (first winter migrants in 2019), didn't managed to get a clearer shot for it. The Malayan Night Heron also looking for food nearby. All the pictures are taken with my K70, DA300mm with 1.4 TC.

Daurian Redstart

Malayan Night Heron

Very nicely captured.

Just to add to the confusion, from the Wiki - "and young as cubs, pups, or kits ......... A group of foxes is referred to as a skulk, leash, or earth".

Oy vey!

LOL - I had always heard the young called kits until a few years ago when someone corrected me and said they were called "pups", and skulk kinda stuck with me due to how odd it sounded. Wonder why the multiple variables?

Anywhos - pic thread and all that. My recent shots all look like the same from the previous few weeks, so here's an older one I don't think I've posted.

Spanish Dove (I think), from back in August. K-1, DA*300.
