Elk, elk and more elk

After mass last night, my wife an I toured the Lower Elk Valley Road to check for elk. Don't know why we should expect to see elk in the Elk Valley, but ... For Europeans, this is a Wapiti; what you call elk, we call moose.

All shots K10D, DA-L 55-300 @ 300mm except the scenic @ 55 mm.

Haven't posted much in this area for a while. Beautiful light this morning so I wandered down by
the local pond. Managed to catch a few of the usual suspects.

North American Robin

Red Wing Blackbird - Male

K5, Pentax M 400/5.6

Wow. Really impressive with the 400 f/5.6. I clearly haven't gotten everything I can out of the lens.

The Robin exceeds adjectives. Audobon is spinning in his grave.

This is a real challenge to capture, its a small little black bird in the shadow but once its catches some glimpse of light, its reflect multitude of colours :ugh:

Copper-throated Sunbird

@Canada Rockies - you sure live in a beautiful section of the province! I really like that last shot.

@Green&White - Interesting to see the slight difference between the Blue Heron we have here and your Grey. I learned a few weeks ago that the long beard (plumage) on the front of the bird is for mating season....

@derekkite - I'm not sure that I have seen a Merlin before....great shot

@ian0138 - Love the colours. I sold my DA*300 to pay for one of my other lenses but at times I miss it. Looking forward to seeing a few more shots.

Thanks Steve, that resolves a question that's bugged me.

A*300mm f4

A*300, Pentax A 2X-S (50% crop and pushed hard, bird was backlit)
