This area (SE AZ) has a lot of birds and some spots to go to for watching and photos. So frustrated at not being able to lug around the gear and walk very far. That's why all my bird shots are limited to the feeder and tree outside the apartment. At least I can still do that, and sometimes take lighter gear for some landscape stuff when I have the energy.

man I bet they are some nice places too with a good variety of critters around as well !! that stinks having physical limitations that make it difficult....I have been trying to incorporate tripod use with a gimbal head and usually live by one spot but not always.......as frustrating as birding can be at times it's also like a type of meditation or something for me as it's mostly peaceful and relaxing

As an (almost) eternal optimist, I keep working towards "better". Hadn't thought of photography as a form of meditation, but it has always been a source of relaxation and stress relief for me. My main outlet these days.

Pic thread - from the other day. K-1 + DA*300, heavy crop.

meditation is a lack of a better term which I am failing to find......photography is a great outlet for sure but there is something a bit different and soothing for me when birding versus other subjects or types of photography

maybe not as it's more taking in / being a part of the nature around me than a release but is a relief of daily life.....reckon it's one of those feelings ya can't explain but are well aware of

A processed stack of the Great Orion Nebula and Running Man from the same session last week where I posted the first, throwaway, shot.
This is the best 123 of 205 images stacked and processed to my ability to bring out the detail. Each shot was 20 seconds using astrotracer:

Lens: SMC A* 400mm f/2.8
Camera: K-3
ISO: 1600
f-stop: 3.5
Shutter: 20s with astrotracer
the best 123 of 205 shots
Wow, that is a really good show of the astrotracer's ability. Not sure about the reds in the image. They seem a bit too saturated, but there's an amazing amount of detail in the image.

Colorful little bird (finch of some sort?). Nice capture.
House finch. I always confuse these with purple finches which should also come to our feeders, but don't. The purple finch has a lot more of the nominal color on the back part of its body.
