I like the way these grebes paddle hull down in the pond. Half submerged like a diving submarine.

Pretty hard to catch these guys. They never stay in the same spot for long and have a habit of not landing in the same spot ever again, making prefocusing a challenge. Anyways, one 'keeper' from today, though I wish I had been stopped down a bit more as his beak is slightly out of focus - but then I don't like going over ISO 1600. On the plus side, there's a fair amount of detail in the feathers on his back. I'm pretty sure it's a dark-eyed junco, of the oregon type.

Better than my ducks in flight I got yesterday. There were 3 of them swimming towards me in a pond so I was ready to take some mostly still shots of them in the water once they got closer but the unpaired male was too much of a pest and they went into flight. I was pleased that I got one not total garbage shot of them flying away, it still isn't great.

My not awful duck picture from yesterday with the Sigma 300mm f/4 APO macro. Hand held 1/200s f/5.6 ISO 800 and a lot of processing plus a tighter crop. I was getting ready to shoo them swimming in the pond but they decided to take off instead.
