Homeless Cardinals

M*300mm

These cardinals lost their home when my neighbor removed the shrub they had been nesting in. The female would not stop flitting and fluttering to the spot they once lived. Not sure if they lost eggs/babies too.

This shot captured her looking back - again - while the male never left her side during her frenzied activity. They were agitated for hours, carrying on long after dark.

Ironically, it was just 30 minutes prior to the shrub removal that I learned of the location of this nest. My other neighbor had excitedly informed me that he had discovered the nest that very afternoon. Knowing I’m always on the lookout for my “cardinal shots”, he wanted me to know where to set up the next shot.

A drake out in the park behind my house. Because of a quirk of the topology there is a berm between me and this duck so with my 300mm I was able to get his head in focus and not the berm or the field behind him.

Barn Owl
Lovely images Luis. I once came across a Barn Owl that had just been hit by a car. It was dead, unfortunately, but as I picked it up to move it off the road it seemed to me the most beautiful creature I have ever seen. The plumage is incredibly soft, the spots are subtle and gorgeous and the face seemed to show their proverbial wisdom.

Nah - they’ll just boot it and leave it there. Eventually NASA will call and pay to have the boot removed..

Lovely shot and rather unusual for ducks!

This tale is tugging at my heart strings... mated cardinals seem more affectionate than most other birds I've observed.

Any thoughts on image quality comparison between the DA* 300/4 vs DFA 150-450?

There is usually one pair of ducks that nests in the neighborhood. People put enough food out for the birds that they can easily survive and there are some spots of water they hang out it expecially after the rain. So a sight like this isn't that uncommon in my neighborhood. However the grass isn't as tall as it appears it is just a trick of the topology.

Such a sad tragedy that you had encountered with the Barn Owl Des

Over here, this is our local bird but it's not easily to be spotted. My first encountered was at the beach nearby my place in June - 2018.
